Nissan Qashqai J10 1.5 dCi 106bhpCVT / Automatic Gearbox Failure

Symptoms

  • Severe juddering or shaking when accelerating
  • RPMs flare up but car doesn't accelerate (slipping)
  • Whining noise that changes with road speed
  • Gearbox goes into limp mode

Root Cause

The steel push-belt slips on the internal pulleys, scoring the metal. Overheating fluid degrades quickly. Nissan claimed the fluid was 'lifetime', meaning many went un-serviced until failure.

How To Fix

  1. If caught very early, a fluid and filter change may buy time
  2. Usually requires full gearbox rebuild or replacement
  3. Remanufactured CVT: £1,500 - £2,500
  4. Manual gearbox variants are highly recommended over the CVT
