Symptoms

  • Hunting or fluctuating idle (revs rise and fall)
  • Poor throttle response at low speeds
  • Hesitation on light acceleration
  • P0506 or P0507 idle control fault codes

Root Cause

The PCV system routes crankcase vapour through the throttle body. Over time, the oil in the vapour deposits carbon on the throttle blade and the air bypass channels, restricting airflow at idle.

How To Fix

  1. Remove the throttle body (2-4 bolts on most variants)
  2. Clean with carb cleaner and a cotton bud — be thorough around the blade edge
  3. Do not use harsh metal scrapers — damage the blade coating
  4. Throttle body relearn procedure needed after cleaning on some variants
  5. DIY job: 1 hour. Cost: just a can of carb cleaner
