Vauxhall Corsa Corsa D 1.3 CDTi 75bhp — Turbocharger Failure and Oil Starvation
Turbo failure on the Fiat/Vauxhall 1.3 CDTi is a documented weakness, particularly when oil change intervals have been extended. The small variable-vane turbo is sensitive to oil quality.

OBD Codes

Typical layout and location for the Turbo assembly.
Symptoms
- Loss of power and boost
- Loud whining noise from turbo under load
- Blue smoke on acceleration
- Oil in intercooler pipes
- P0299 underboost code
Root Cause
The variable-vane actuator on the turbocharger can stick with carbon deposits, causing the vanes to seize. Combined with oil starvation from sludged feed pipes, this causes bearing failure.
How To Fix
- Check VNT actuator operation first — a stuck vane is cheaper to fix than a new turbo
- Clean actuator and vanes with carb cleaner if sticky (not seized)
- Replacement turbo (remanufactured): £250-450
- Flush oil system on installation — old sludge will kill a new turbo within weeks
- Fitted: £450-750 at indie

Other Faults on This Variant
EGR Valve Failure and Carbon Build-Up
ModerateThe Fiat/GM 1.3 CDTi is a capable diesel but its EGR valve blocks with carbon deposits regularly. This is one of the most common Corsa D complaints.
Diesel Particulate Filter Blockage
ModerateDPF blockage is endemic on the 1.3 CDTi Corsa, largely because most owners use them for short trips where the DPF cannot self-clean.
EGR Valve Seized Open
ModerateThe EGR valve on the 1.3 CDTi clogs rapidly, usually jamming open and causing terrible starting and idling.
